In ending of Hindi sentence when we see ता था, ती थी, ते थे, or या, ये ,यी, यि then it is called past simple tense.

In english sentence when we use main v2 form and in negative and interrogative sentence Did+ V1 then it is called past simple tense.

Did + V1

Subj +V2 +object+ . Simple sentences 

Negative sentence - Subj + did +not +V1 +object +.

Interrogative sentence - Did +Subj + V1+ Object +?

Interrogative negative sentence - Did +Subj +not + V1 + object +?

Ram caught a cat.

Sita did not give me a book.

Did Radha send a book ?

Did sohan not read a novel ?
